Peter KLASEN - Restricted Area, original signed lithograph

"My painting is deeply linked to the urban environment in which I live. It is understood as a refusal, even a denunciation of a world that is increasingly invading objects and images that fundamentally condition our daily lives."

Peter Klasen

Born in Lübeck (Germany) in 1935, Peter Klasen is a german painter, photographer and sculptor working on the theme of the industry. Since 1962, he is one of the founding member of New Figuration (or narrative Figuration) with artists Valerio Adami, Erró, Jacques Monory, Bernard Rancillac and Hervé Télémaque.

He then develops a personal plastic language, exploring and reinterpreting the signs of the urban environment, and more generally of the consumer society. The theme of the industry is found many times in its paintings through elements such as pressure gauges, road signs, construction machinery and metal locks. He also draws his inspiration from the society of abundance translated into his paintings in the form of logos, figures and photos from magazines or posters.

His first solo exhibition took place in 1966, in Paris. Since 1963, he realized many exhibitions in France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Cuba, Brazil with several retrospectives (museum of modern art of the city of Paris, Sens museum, Monticelli Fondation, Marseille...)
