Notre sélection pour la FIAC [En savoir plus]

FIAC returns to Paris for its 47th edition and this year invests the Grand Palais Ephémère. Inspired by this unmissable event of contemporary art, we have selected limited edition works worthy of being hung on the picture rails of this unmissable show. These prints, more accessible than paintings or drawings, sometimes reach record prices, such as the engraved works by Pierre Soulages or the serigraphs by Andy Warhol. This week, you have an appointment for a virtual visit with our comments on the works.

Pierre Soulages

He is the painter of the outrenoir, Pierre Soulages celebrated his 100th birthday in 2019. “ I did printmaking because, with engraving, something appeared that could not appear in the painting …” (Pierre Soulages, January 1974). According to Soulages, the action of acid on copper is reminiscent of the action of time on things (stone, iron) but the action time is accelerated. It was in 1952 in the Workshop of Mr Lacourière, whom he had met a year earlier, that he began his engraving work. Pierre Soulages makes two prints, which are almost interpretive engravings since he executes them himself from his own paintings (traditionally it is the master engraver who is responsible for carrying out this reproduction). Etching n ° II was produced in this workshop.

Andy warhol

This serigraph created by Andy Warhol is taken from Ingrid Bergman's Portfolio, specially created by Andy Warhol at the request of the Börjeson gallery, in reference to the role of Ingrid Bergman in the film Casablanca by Michael Curtiz in 1942. It is about a great opportunity to own an original and iconic pop art print. For comparison, the value of the same print but signed is approximately $ 60,000.00).

Joan mitchell

Joan Mitchell is an American painter and part of the Abstract Expressionist movement. She considers nature, landscapes, as a supreme and inexhaustible source of inspiration. She says of her works that they must " convey the feeling of the dying sunflower. " This motif is recurrent in his work. Joan Mitchell's paintings have a safe bet on the art market and often exceed a million euros. In 2019, his Blueberry painting was acquired for € 12,277,222.00 during a sale at Christie's in New York. This large engraving representing sunflowers is signed in pencil and printed in 75 copies.

Joan Miró

Joan Miró produced a large number of lithographs and engravings. They take up the main characteristics of his painted works: white or black background with surrealist shapes and primary and shimmering colors. Certain engravings published in very few copies regularly reach high prices, around € 50,000 for the most elaborate works. The print we are presenting is an aquatint print signed by the artist and numbered out of 75 copies. Imposing, it measures 80 cm in height and 121 cm in width.

Caesar Baldaccini

Trained sculptor César Baldaccini, known as César is attached to the group of New Realists. By making his first works with pieces of recovered scrap, César appropriates the objects of the consumer society and radically renews the traditional techniques of sculpture with his cuts. In recent months, we have observed an evolution of the selling prices of his works. This enthusiasm for the artist can be explained by the fact that 2021 marks the centenary of his birth. Several exhibitions are dedicated to him this year.

Invader

Invader has invaded every city in the world with its mosaic-tiled Space Invaders. Through the public space, the artist campaigns for an art accessible to all and therefore limits the production of unique works and editions sold in galleries. As a result, the latter are highly sought after by collectors. This edition represents three space invaders in a cell. It is numbered out of 250 copies and bears the publisher's dry stamp. There are only 350 prints of this edition, including 100 signed by the artist.
