A colorful and mystical work

This colorful and powerful work is particularly representative of the style of Bengt Lindström. On a background tinted with red, green, yellow and blue, a naked figure with an enigmatic face sits at the center of the composition. Neither abstract nor figurative, this work is imbued with folklore and is said to be a reminiscence of the strange masks and figures that populated the stories of his childhood. Bengt Lindström was rocked by myths and legendary tales from Scandinavian culture. His works are deeply imbued with spirituality and mystery, these two dimensions constitute an important part of artistic reflection for the artist.

Pure color

The first paintings by Bengt Lindström are figurative portraits and self-portraits. At the end of the 1950s, the artist moved to France and studied with Fernand Léger. His style is defined more and more: he paints directly on the canvas, on the ground with large seals of pure colors: blue, yellow, green and red. These are the colors that we find mainly in his works. Lindström's first solo exhibition was organized in Stockholm in 1954. He became friends with Bogart, Marfaing, Maryan and Pouget, then with Asger Jorn, whose work influenced him considerably. In 1962, he participated in the second New Figuration exhibition in Paris.

The importance of lithography

Although he made many paintings, the Swedish also devoted himself to sculpture and lithography. In 1948, he discovered the engravings of Chagall and Bacon, and at that time produced his first lithographs, a medium which would have a special place in his work. His paintings, drawings, sculptures and prints are sought after by collectors and the prices of his works can reach up to € 20,000.
