The invasion of Invader

Invader has invader all the cities of the world with his Space Invaders mosaics. Throughout public art, the artist campaigns for an art that is accessible for all and limits the production of unique works and editions sold via galleries. As such, these works and editions are very sought after by collectors. This week, we present an edition produced in 2011 for an exhibition in London.

Invader - Space Waffle, 2011

A delicious multiple

The work Space Waffle is a pre-cooked waffle produced for the exhibition Attack of the Space Waffle via a space waffle maker created by Invader at Lazarides Gallery (London). Preserved in a vacuum package, the edition is signed by the artist and numbered out of 100 copies. During this exhibition, a waffle maker having been used for the production of these waffles was also sold.

Ceramic tiles around the world

Franck Slama, aka Invader, is a French street artist and mosaicist, born in France in 1969. The artist, who wishes to remain anonymous, creates mosaics of pixellated creatures from the arcade video game of the same name. Approximately 4000 Space Invaders would be disseminated across the planet. His technique consists of fixing pieces of tile on the walls of cities and attributing himself points based on the complexity of the fresco and the difficulty of the emplacement. He declares in 2011: "It is the most addictive game I have never played."

The invasion of Invader

The "invasion" as he calls it is not limited to the walls of cities. On the 31st of December 1999, Invader installs LA_11 (LA for Los Angeles, _11 because it is the city's 11th Space Invader) on the Hollywood sign.
