We all know the painter but few know the craftsman. This week, discover an exceptional work on panel.
Braque liked to work with all materials, noble or less noble: stones, wood, earth, metal, or plaster. Georges Braque made panels for the farmhouse Bernard, home of his friend Maeght in Saint Paul de Vence. He also decorated the house, a workshop that the architect Auguste Perret had built for him in Paris. The use of such panels clearly shows how Braque's art is an art of line, volume and domestic art.
The theme of the Bird is an obsession with space and movement, such as the desire to escape life. With this work, Braque declines his ultimate theme in magnificent work on panel.
